Amazon MGM Studios drops AFI’s July Goodwin as head of award campaigns, strategic activations and talent management


Communication veteran July Goodwin has joined Amazon MGM Studios, Sue Kroll, Amazon MGM Studio’s head of global marketing, film and series, announced on Tuesday.

Goodwin joins Streamer as head of award campaigns, strategic activations and talent management. She will report directly to Kroll. Goodwin was last at AFI.

Kroll sent out a note to employees who announced the rent.

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to share that July Goodwin joins Amazon MGM Studios marketing team as head of award campaigns, strategic activations and talent management. July will report directly to me and monitor our award team and work closely with Brooke Ford.

In its role, July will also cooperate closely with commission leader Tammy Golihew, Adriene Bowles and Christine Batista to design our award strategy, in addition to leading our brand and talent presence on consumer and industry events with a high impact when we deepen our commitment to the audience all over the world. She starts September 2 and will be based in Culver City.

July is an experienced CEO with more than 25 years of experience that drives visibility and praise for some of the most famous films and organizations in our industry. She last served as chief communications manager at the American Film Institute, where she led brand, publicity and marketing efforts in all major initiatives, including AFI Awards, AFI Conservatory, AFI Fest and the iconic AFI Life Achievement Award. Her innovative leadership helped to revive the AFI brand and drive significant digital growth.

Before AFI, July served as EVP for domestic publicity in Warner Bros., where she spent almost two decades as orchestrated high -profile campaigns that defined the film culture and brought home critical and commercial success. Her portfolio includes awards such as Argo, Million Dollar Baby, The Departed and Gravity, as well as global tent poles such as Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception and Wonder Woman.

She is known throughout the industry for her strategic precision and ability to serve both talent, filmmaker and internal stakeholders. Juli’s experience, vision and collaboration leadership will be instrumental as we continue to build ambitious campaigns and activations that reflect caliber for our content.
