If you are somewhere close to Parentingtok it is likely that you have encountered tips from Large little emotions. The mothers behind the brand – Deena Margolin, a licensed marriage family and parenting Kristin Gallant – are best friends and business partners, and they have broken the code by breaking through in very narrow Parental counseling space.
But when the two first became mothers, they did not necessarily feel like experts. “Many things surprised me,” says Gallant about early parenting. “I think how fast your life is drastically changing was most surprising to me.”
For Margolin it was “how physical and emotionally difficult recovery is” after giving birth. Although she had heard of the experience from parents before, “it felt like I had been tricked up and suddenly tried to take care of a crying baby around the clock and somehow heals without sleeping,” she says. “And I was like, wait a second, this is crazy.”
“I was nothing that I am today before I became a mother.”
Of all the things that helped the two through unknown by early parenting, friendship was enormous. When Gallant gave birth to her daughter in 2016, it was “very isolating,” she recalls, because she didn’t know she had Anxiety after birth. But when she was diagnosed, she was able to find solidarity with other mothers who could behave. “When I started to become more vulnerable, it is when society really started for me, and I can’t imagine my life without my very robust network of mom friends,” she says.
Of course, as a new parent, with all the surprising challenges comes extraordinary joy. “Being an adult before child, life can be a bit monotonous, and to see the world through my children’s eyes is magical,” says Margolin. “It’s like starting my own life in some ways – all these new perspectives and all these things that are normal for us are so influential and interesting to them. This is the most fun chapter of my life too.”
Gallant believes “it’s all so happy” – and that joy has shaped its own identity. “Seeing these children becomes completely their own person and being able to witness it and support it and promote it – it gives me the greatest joy ever and has completely changed me for the better as a person,” she says. “I was nothing that I am today before I became a mother. I am a better entrepreneur, I am better all because of these amazing children I have.”
Margolin and Gallant share these joy (and challenges) with their followers because they are commissioned to help make the process easier for others. They only grow their footprint, from social media to their own parenting courses to a new line of Playkits with Fisher Price.
In addition to their own products, they also have a long list of the practical articles that helped them during the chaotic phase of early parenting. Thankfully we got the inside: they shared what helped them and their newborns get through the postpartum period, from the softest PJs to the best diapers. Continue reading for their choices.
