Cher, Beck Trey Anastasio and Alicia Keys were only four of the highlights in Thursday night’s ninth annual Love Rocks NYC Benefit Concert for God’s love we deliver. The concert was held at New York’s Beacon Theater and collected more than $ 4 million for the organization, which is cooking and home -based, medically customized meals for people who cannot shop or cook for themselves.
The Four-Hour Plus Concert was hosted by Alex Edelman, Amy Schumer, Susie Essman and Tracy Morgan, and Also Featured Performances from Mavis Staples, Michael McDonald, Kate Hudson, Peter Frampton, Dave Amori, ERYTHMICS WITH SINGLE Bowers, Jesse Malin, Luke Spills and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram.
Cher delivered the evening’s most eye-catching performance, kicked off his three-song set dressed as Elvis Presley and performs “Walking in Memphis.” She dressed two different (lower key) clothes for her next two digits, her own “(this is) a song for the lonely”, which contained pictures of old New York that appears behind her, celebrated the breath in the city’s resilience, and of course closed with her Smash “Believe.”
Alicia Keys opened the show by paying tribute to Roberta Flack, which passed away last weekWith a cover of her hit from 1973 “Killing me softly” and then honored her hometown with her hit “Empire State of Mind.” Other highlights included Mavis Staples united by Michael McDonald for a soulful performance of the Staples songs’ classic “I’m Take You There”, and the night ended with an all-Star performance by Stevie Wonders “Higher Ground”, which embodied the event’s celebration of unit.
Terrence Meck, President and CEO of God’s love we deliver, noted that the organization has collected more than $ 50 million so far and helped to finance 5 million meals for New Yorkers living with serious illnesses.
“God’s love we deliver is unique in New York City-we is the only non-profit supplier of medically customized meals. We started as an AIDS service organization almost 40 years ago, and now we cook food and deliver medically customized meals, to people living with more than 200 different diagnoses, ”he said.
