Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are back

Only a month from when “wicked” wrapped up its Award Seasonal Running At the Academy Awards and seven months before the release in theaters, “Wicked: For good“Is ready to bring us back down on the yellow brick road. Part two of the hit Broadway musical adaptation follows the heroine Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) because the people of oz are manipulated to cease her, and best friend glinds (Ariana Grande) forced to become a nozzle for the opposition led by Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and the magician (Jeff Goldblum).

The audience at Cinemacon got their first look at some of the pictures from film On Wednesday during Universal’s presentation, as well as a live performance by a medley of some of the music from the show performed by a 43-part orchestra performed by Rickey Minor. “Wicked: For Good” opens in the theaters November 21, 2025.

Both Erivo and Grande took the stage to introduce “for good” together with director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt. CHU reminded that this is the third year “Wicked” has closed Universal’s Cinemacon presentation; “Thankfully, it worked,” he said. Platt also recognized the risk that the studio took by dividing the game into two parts, but he said that the piece sees that some record boxes return as a result of the film’s popularity. Erivo and Grande talked about sneaking into some sing-a-long impressions and has packed their tissues to go back on the tour and do the same.

So what did we see from the movie in the room at the Coliseum? “It’s not going back,” says Elphaba to open what is a full trailer for the movie. We see that Glinda gives her iconic pink dress and Tiara, Fiyero who leads her “Squadron Hot On Your Trail”, ElphaBa Skywriting “The Wizard Lies”, and even Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, which stands in front of the magician. The trailer is made to the song “For Good” from the musical, and it closes with an exchange between Grande and Erivo: “You are the only friend I have ever had,” Elphaba tells Glinda. “And I’ve had so many friends,” she replies, “but only one who ever mattered.”

Fans of the musical will know that Act Two of the Show is taking on a much darker tone than the first half, with Elphaba and Glinda put in odds and the former grip on her own magic leading to chaotic mishaps. The binding tissue between “Wicked” and its narrative sequel, “The Wizard of Oz” also takes greater focus when the origin stories behind characters such as The Scarecrow and The Tin Man are revealed, as well as how a house from Kansas ends up from the sky in Munchkinland. Director Jon M. Chu Have also noted that Dorothy Gale, whose role is short in the musical, will be shown more prominently in the film.

Talk to IndieWire in December 2024, Role Member Jonathan BaileyWho plays Elphaba’s love interest Fiyero shared that people should not expect “wicked: for good” to be as easy and fun as the first movie. He said at that time: “I am really excited for the tone change. The world gets heavier and more complicated and there is only that pumps the feeling of hope and joy and resilience and all the things we love with Elphaba’s journey that I can’t wait for.”

In addition to Bailey, Erivo, Grande, Yeoh and Goldblum, all of which return in their respective roles, Ethan Slater (BOQ), Marissa Bode (Nessarose) and Bowen Yang (Pfanee) will also be shown in the film. “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” are managed at the same time, with the decision to divide the musical into two parts that come before production.

“When we prepared production over the past year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of” wicked “into a single movie without making any real damage to it,” CHU wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter In April 2022, the election announces. “When we tried to cut songs or trim characters, these decisions began to feel like deadly compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years.
