Dave Franco, Alison Brie navigates in marriage and horror together

Dave Franco and Alison Brie brought along their new horror movie “Together” To Sundance over the weekend, and sitting in Thewrap’s Sundance studio presented by the World of Hyatt, the married creatives revealed how they balanced their real relationship with creating a worrying genre piece about co-dependency.

“The film is about a co-dependent couple who has been together for over a decade,” Brie told Thewrap-Chefa-Chief and CEO Sharon Waxman. “They are in a little bit of trouble, and they move to the countryside, kind of away from their friends and society, and some strange things happen to them.”

While the film sounds like a relationship drama on the surface, Franco emphasized its horror elements: “This sounds like a relationship drama, and it is, but it is also a complete horror movie. The set pieces are like nothing you have seen in a horror movie. It is very inclined to body fear. “

The couple, who have been married for eight years, served as producers on the project. Brie emphasized their collaboration strategy: “We were very close with our author-director Michael Shanks, so it was a real collaboration between us three. When I think about the photography it was so fun. Every time one of us was not on the camera, we were behind the monitor with Shanks. “

Franco and Brie’s real marriage helped rather than preventing their depiction of a troubled couple. “It’s just good,” Franco said, handling potential concerns about playing an unhealthy relationship while he got married in reality. “The confusing part was that in the film the couple we play through many difficulties and (is) not in a good relationship.”

The film marks another collaboration between Brie and Franco, who previously worked together on 2023’s “Somebody it wised to know” and 2020’s “The Rental.”

“Together” Maybe not their last investment in horror, which Franco revealed, “We currently have seeds of an idea for another horror movie that we can write together.”
