Disney’s Snow White Premiere controversy, explained

Disney’s “Snow White” event in Los Angeles on Saturday, a combination premiere and celebration of Marc Webb’s update of the 1937 masterpiece, was always meant to be a more modest event. While the reports highlight screening of Saturday afternoon and pre-party, held at Disney’s El Capitan Theater, as some kind of pivot, they assure the situation that the situation was always the plan for the launch of snow white “.

It is expected to be about 1,000 guests presence, including celebrities, filmmakers and press, although the press will not be on the film’s red carpet. The premiere scale and complexity are in line with the latest premieres such as “Inside Out 2” (also held in Hollywood) and “Moana 2” (held in Hawaii).

“Snow White” has taken its fair share of controversy – from the fans’ counter -reaction to comments that star Rachel Zegler has made the protagonist in the remake who did not get out of outdated perceptions of romance, to the inclusion of the seven Dwarfs, something “Game of Thrones” star Peter Peter Dinkle “Take a step back and look at what you do there,” Dinklage is prompted.

After the Dinklage remarks, Disney released a statement to ABC News who partially said, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we take a different attitude with these seven characters and have consulted with members of the Dwarf community.” (The characters are described as “magical creatures” in casting messages and finally brought to life via computer animation.)

It has also been the sensitive question of the stars Zelger and Gal Gadot, who appear as the evil queen in the remake and their opposite political positions. Zegler has been pronounced when he was a free Palestine and wanted a ceasefire in the Middle East, while Gadot literally served for two years in Israel Defense Forces and was recently honored at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual summit in New York, where she gave a suffering speech. Their latest behavior together at the Academy Awards was cool at best.

It was with all this in mind that the studio planned a purposeful low event, a free of journalists who flank the red carpet. Instead, there will be photographers and their own crew documenting the event.

Zegler and Gadot will still be at the Hollywood premiere. And both actresses are on tour that supports the film, makes performances and makes different advertising events.

“Snow White” opens everywhere on March 21st.
