Donald Trump said on Sunday that he introduces a 100% duty on “all and all” movies made outside the United States.
“The film industry in America dies a very rapid death. Other countries offer all kinds of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States,” wrote the president on the truth social Sunday.
“Hollywood, and many other Areas Within the USA, Are Being Devastated. This is a Concerted Effort by Other Nations and, Thefore, A National Security Threat. It is, In addition to everything else, Messaging and propaganda! Trade Representative, to Immedialy Begin the process of instituting a 100% tariff on any and all movies coming into our country that are produced in foreign lands. We Want Movies Made in America, Again! “
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Ampas) did not immediately respond to Thewrap’s comment.
The post follows a report from the deadline That Trump’s Hollywood Ambassador Jon Voight takes action to reform the entertainment industry. Voight, who was named to the post Alongside Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone in January, have reportedly taken meetings “with trade union reps and studio leaders to understand the issues that plague domestic production.”
Gibson and Stallone are not believed to be involved in these conversations.
“It’s my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone to be special ambassadors to a large but very worried place, Hollywood, California,” he wrote on Truth Social at that time. “They will serve as a special envoy for me in order to bring Hollywood, who has lost a lot of business over the past four years to foreign countries, back – bigger, better and stronger than ever before!”
“These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will do what they suggest,” Trump continued. “It will again be, like the United States itself, Golden Age of Hollywood!”
