Elizabeth Olsen admitted that she was unsure of her taste after a decade of appearing in Marvel films.
While you’re on the NPR podcast “Wild Card with Rachel Martin,” Olsen – who has played Scarlet Witch in a number of Marvel movies and shows – revealed that she does not believe that her biggest roles adequately represents the kind of movies and shows that she likes personally.
“I think I have not always made choices in my work that is in line with my personal taste and that is something I feel that I still try to prove when I meet people,” she said on Wednesday’s episode of the podcast. “Especially if it is a work type meeting and be able to express my personal taste, movies, literature and so I still think I have it to prove.”
Olsen continued: “Since I have spent so many years making Marvel that I feel that all other jobs I have to do must really reflect my personal taste because I love being part of this world – and I am proud of what I have been able to do with the character – it is not really the art that I consume. Which I have been very honest.”
The actress first entered Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Since then, she has appeared in “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame”, Disney+ series “Wandavision” – which netted her an Emmy nomination – and “Doctor Strange in the multiverse of Madness.”
Although he wondered about everything Marvel’s work has obliquely what people think she is interested in, Olsen was quick to add that she was excited to join the franchise and remain proud of her work within.
“I thought they were so big stories about Greek scale that reflected politics, culture in a really wonderful way,” she said. “And so I felt really proud to jump into it. And then, over the past ten years, it has been taken on this story about the like, it’s like a hot hold, whether an actor says they want to, they would never make a Marvel movie or not.”
