Emma Thompson has shared the story of the time Donald Trump asked her the same day as her divorce from ex -man Kenneth Branagh became official on several occasions. But when you speak on Locarno Film Festival In Switzerland this weekend, she added the anecdote and joked that she could have “changed the course for American history” she had accepted.
Thompson recalled to be in his trailer on the set of 1998’s “primary colors” when she received an unexpected phone call. Whoever calls identified himself like Trump.
“I thought it was a joke and asked,“ How can I help you? “Maybe he needed directions from someone,” Thompson explained. “Then he said,“ I would love you to come and live in one of my beautiful places. Maybe we can have dinner. “
The Oscar winner was not exactly enthusiastic. She replied: “It’s very sweet. Thank you very much. I’ll be back to you.”
The star “Love actually” was not the only person recently divorced at that time – Trump and his second wife Marla Maples had recently called their own marriage.
“I realized that the day that day had my divorce event come through. And I bet he has people looking for suitable people he could take out on his arm. You know, a nice divorce, that’s what he was looking for,” Thompson noted.
The story is really one like Thompson has shared before. In 2017, she told Graham Norton about the exchange that she “just associated Trump with tasteless architecture at that point.”
Her movie “The Dead of Winter” premiered on Friday at Locarno and will meet theaters on September 26.
