Green Day decided to have some fun With its acceptance number at iHeartradio Music Awards, with time on stage to paraphrase and refer a speech from the 1997 movie “Boogie Nights.”
The band, who won for this year’s alternative artist, got up on stage to accept the award, with band leader Billie Joe Armstrong who took the podium together with Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt.
“Wow.” I guess the only thing I can say is that I continue to rock and roll to make music and better songs that you do that we make these discs and sometimes they consider dirty of some people, but I don’t think it’s true.
For those who did not raise it, the speech was a fine -tuned version of Mark Wahlberg’s dialogue from “Boogie Nights”, when his character Dirk Diggler accepts one of his various awards at an adult price exhibition. Like Armstrong, he began his speech with “Wow, I don’t know what to say.” From there it was a relatively allegiant beat-for-beat interpretation of the speech.
