After a defective $ 42 million opening weekend and soft returns in the middle of the week the prospect is gloomy for Disney “Snowwind.” But despite this, it is expected to hold on to No. 1 even when five wide emissions, including Amazon MGM’s “A Working Man” and A24’s “Death of a unicorn,” are set to meet theaters.
Between Monday and Wednesday, the latest Disney remake gathered $ 8.6 million, giving its domestic sum to $ 50.8 million after six days. By comparison, Remake opened in 2019 by “Dumbo” to $ 45.9 million and collected $ 9.8 million in its first Moon-Wed. Period before he earned a second weekend totaling $ 18.2 million, a 60% reduction from his opening weekend.
“Snow White” should have a similar second weekend in total, maybe do a little better and crack $ 20 million. One good news for the film is that the reception has been strong among family and female audiences, the core audience Disney must be bone through Spring Break.
But with a production budget of $ 250 million plus-long over $ 170 million in the “dumbo”-not enough that there is enough nuclear audience. Movies with that price tag must have four quadrant success in order to make a theater gain. And with the critics’ reviews and general disinterest from male film guests and other general audience demos, “Snow White” will not get it.
Unfortunately for theaters, there is not much traction for the countless alternatives that come to theaters this weekend. The Jason Statham Action movie “A Working Man” tracks the best of the group, but its forecasts top out shorter “Snow White” with $ 12 million. It is below $ 16.5 million that was started last year by Statham’s “The Beekeeper.”
David Ayer directed the film and wrote it with Sylvester Stallone, who also produces with Ayer. Black Bear and Punch Palace are also producers in the film, which has received mildly positive reviews with a 64% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
At the same time, two different flavors of horror movies will go head-to-head with Universal/Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard” up to A24’s more comic “Death of a Unicorn.” The latter is expected to have a better opening weekend, but it does not look like a magical with forecasts at a start of $ 5-7 million.
A24 brought “Death of a Unicorn” to a premiere at SXSW in the hope of building buzz among genre fans, but it will not be helped by critics who were lukewarm on the film with a 59% Rotten Tomatoes score. The film will need extremely strong mouth-to-mouth from the Gen Z movie guests, especially those who are fans of leads Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, to have some hope for the legs.
“The woman in the yard”, in the meantime, looks at a poor start of less than $ 5 million from 2,800 theaters. Blumhouse had an uncharacteristically poor 2024 at the checkout and did not give a film that stood among the 5 highest gross horror films for the year.
With “The Woman in the Yard” which is probably the latest original bust for the movie, Blumhouse will have to turn – like the rest of Hollywood – to a sequel to make money. While the studio has another non-century coming up in April with the mobile phone’s thriller “Drop”, the rest of its 2025 slate of sequels to “M3gan”, “The Black Phone” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s is highlighted.”
Finally, a couple of special offers met theaters this weekend. For older audience, Sony Pictures Classics releases “The Penguin Lesson”, a real story film with Steve Coogan as a teacher in the 1970s that finds a way to get involved with his uninterested students with the help of a penguin that unexpectedly has bound him.
In addition, theaters before Easter Fathom’s “The Chosen: The Last Supper”, which continues the hit series “Adaptation of the gospel by showing Jesus Christ’s arrival to Jerusalem and his last days before his crucifixion.
