Lizzo will play trailblazing musicians sister Rosetta Tharpe in the upcoming biopiken “Rosetta” from Amazon MGM Studios.
From the authors Natalie Chaidez (“The Flight Action”) and Kwynn Perry (“Tigerbelles”), “Rosetta” will tell the story of how Tharpe became known as Godmor of Rock & Roll, affecting Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash and countless other musicians. Lizzo will also produce the film together with Kevin Beisler and significant productions Nina Yang Bongiovi and Forest Whitaker.
An early description of the project, which is currenly in development, explains that movie “captures a pivotal period in her life – one of groundbreaking innovation, defiant passion, and secrete naviga. Constrats, Conceal Her Love for Another Woman, and Ultimately Transform A Wedding Into One of the Most Legendary Concerts in History – The First Stadium Show. ”
“Rosetta” is not the first time Tharpe will be made on film: British musician Yola played her In Baz Luhrmann’s Biopik 2022 “Elvis”, who played Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. While Tharpe died in 1973, her songs are still often shown in movies and show, including, most recently, “her own league”, “Atlanta”, “Death on the Nile”, “I know this is true” and “Elvis & Nixon.”
The news about the movie comes when Lizzo returns to music with the new singles “Still Bad” and “Love in Real Life”, the latter is the title of her upcoming fifth studio album that will come later this year.
The four-o’clock Grammy winner is best known for his hot 100 #1-hits, “the truth hurts” and the Grammy record for the annual winning “About Damn Time.” Multi-hyphenated talent headed HBO special “Lizzo: Live in Concert” and was the focus of the Max documentary “Love, Lizzo”, plus she seemed opposite Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez in 2019 Crime Dramedy “Hustler.” In 2022, Lizzo won an Emmy to produce and starring in reality -TV series “Lizzo’s Watch up for the Big Grrls” for Amazon MGM Studios.
