Eight years ago I promised to find ways to Minimize my waste. When I worked as a production assistant in the fashion industry at that time, I grew hyper consciously about how much clothing was incorrectly recycled and sent to landfills. I am a big fan of fresh meals and I like to grow my own herbs and vegetables – something that proves difficult in my apartment in New York City. Like my houseplants, these plants need a lot of sunlight and good soil. I have been so impressed with how fast Lomi can turn all my food waste from the week into a healthy fertilizer that I can “feed” into my plants. Since I used the unit, my plants and a small herb garden have never looked better – a result of being enriched by the compost that Lomi generates. And although it may not seem appealing to compost on your countertop, the airtight lid and included skis (more about the latter) prevent the compost to smelling (or swarm with fruit flies!).

Most importantly, Lomi simplifies the waste reduction process-a journey that can be very confusing and can cause overwhelming debt when you are not right. With Lomi you learn exactly what can and cannot be composted. For example, coffee puffs, eggs, eggshells, fruit residues, shells and leafy teas get green light to enter the compost. If you do not use it for plants, you can easily throw away the soil in your green trash or take it to your community compost. The point is that the Lomi compost takes all the guesses from composting, while teaching users how to throw away – and reuse – food waste.

How to use Lomi Electric Composter

First, place the machine on a flat countertop. Then add the activated coal pellets and install the fillable filters to prevent odor. Finally, connect it and download the corresponding app to exit the setting. The entire process takes you less than 10 minutes.

Once you have placed the 2.5-liter unit on the countertop and added your food debris and compostables, you have the opportunity to choose between three modes: ECO-Express, GROW and LOMI approved mode. Eco-Express is the fastest way (three to five hours max) that breaks down your food residues, with high heat to kill the microorganism. Grow mode takes 20 hours to complete and is good for those who want nutritious compost. The brand recommends that you add a pod under this bike. The seed skis are made of their own mixture of Probiotics It helps to improve degradation speed, reduce the smell and improve soil production. Finally, there are Lomi-approved location, best for composting bioplastics and compostable packaging (I like to add paper debris here). Each position breaks down food debris to 20 percent of its original form.

Continue to fill Lomi with the content during the abundance and see that it works its magic. When you are ready to clean it, just throw the bucket in the dishwasher.

What to think about before you try Lomi Electric Composter

Although Lomi can break down most things, it does not accept butter, food oils, pits or bones from chicken, beef and pork. The machine also has a substantial price tag and the need for new coal pellets for a few months.
