Pixars “Elio” is on his way home.
The beloved animated studio’s latest function, about a lone young boy who will be abducted by foreigners, will meet digital tomorrow, August 19, followed by a 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD edition on September 9. And before that edition, we have an exclusive deleted scene, which you can look at below.
As directors Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian Note in the introduction, this scene was part of a version of the film that preceded their commitment. That version of the film was very different – mainly that it was structured around three tests that Young Elio (expressed by Yonas Kibeab) must complete after being abducted by foreigners and unloaded on community, a wonderful, swirling space station full of extraterrestrial “ambassadors.” The scene, which Sharafian notes in the clip, was “for the audience and Elio to meet the ambassadors on an individual level.” Another big difference, as Shi points out is that Lord Grigon (expressed by Brad Garrett) went from being another ambassador to the film’s main antagonist. He is big and scary.
The scene, which plays as an extended cocktail party, is what Elio imagines is the first test but is in fact not. It is a fascinating look at what the movie could have been, and once was, before a dramatic creative review gave us the movie “Elio” which arrived in theaters earlier this summer.
You can see this deleted scene, along with a variety of other removed scenes (including an exciting, fully animated hunting sequence), mini -documentaries and more about the home publishing of “Elio.”
