Lostprophet singer Ian Watkins found dead after being attacked in prison on Saturday, according to BBC. He was 48.
Watkins was sentenced to 29 years in prison in HMP Wakefield after he was convicted of several sexual abuse and exploitation offenses, including disgusting crimes against children, children and animals.
West Yorkshire police confirmed the 48-year-old singer’s death after being called to prison on Saturday morning about an attacked prisoner and found Watkins. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The BBC reported that Watkins was attacked with a knife by another prisoner. While the exact details and motives for the attack have not yet been revealed, a prison service spokesman said that a police investigation is currently ongoing.
It was previously reported by Police stone that musicians were attacked at the prison in August 2023 by three other prisoners. The incident left him with several neck injuries that demanded that he seek immediate medical attention.
According to Rolling Stone, Watkins was only arrested in September 2012 after police arrested a large number of mobile phones and storage units after completing a drug search order at home in Pontypridd, a city in Wales.
He was imprisoned in December 2013 after admitting to rape and sexual abuse against a minor, along with a number of other crimes against child sex.
A rock star in the 20th century founded Watkins the Welian rock band Lostpropets in 2000. Their most popular hits include “Lost Train Home” and “Rooftops.”
