Disney’s “Moana 2” really made waves.
Originally intended as a multipart Disney+ Original Series, it was configured to a theater feature of Walt Disney Animation Studios, with both Burbank studio and a satellite studio in Canada, to make sure the film looked – and even more important – blanket As a big screen adventure. Gamble paid off and the movie, which contained returning stars Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho, brought in More than $ 1 billion all over the worldwhich was enough to make it the third most successful film of the year (after second Disney-heavy Hitters “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”).
In the sequel, Moana travels back into the sea to defeat an evil demigod that has kept an island hidden for too long, debilitating trade routes and prevents various oceanic nations from meeting and interacting with each other in the process. But can she break through and keep her island decisive in a constantly changing world?
If for some reason you missed “Moana 2” during its first theater driving, the movie is available digitally and only meets Disney+. In addition, there will be 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD options available next week on March 18.
And to celebrate the function that returns to its ancestral home (Disney+), Thewrap spoke with two of the filmmakers behind “Moana 2” – Jason Hand and David Derrick Jr. – And got answers to all your burning questions. Larger spoiler warningObviously.
At the end of the movie, Moana is now a demigod. What does it mean to her and how did you come to that decision?
David Derrick Jr.: It means a lot of things. We tried to tell a story about ongoing development and growth. (The movie) begins with the hermit crab that is brave enough to leave its shell to find a new one. What this new role is for Moana, no one knows completely yet. It is part of the beauty of life, is that we never know what we will be, but every day we have to choose who we are. But I love that we leave that door open.
Jason Hand: I mean, it was such a fun part of the story that we sat on forever and we loved and it was actually … It took a while to find out exactly how to create that moment, how we would get it to the point where we understood that Moana’s choice and her sacrifice she made, and even how Maui was brought in it. But I love the idea, and what does it mean? This means that Moana is as amazing as ever and even more. But for Dave’s points, I think we have more to explore about it.
There is also a scene after credit with all the villains together. Where did it come from and what are the consequences?
Derrick Jr.: It’s something we always played with, we always wanted Tamatoa to come in, somehow we wanted to see Nalo and show the complicated relationship Matangi has – she is Team Moana, but she has to play both sides for a while because she is in a tricky place. And the placement of it, we wanted to go out in the most euphoric way possible, with Moana and her crew chasing the horizon, let a few points roll and then have fun with our villains. There would be a breath between them. But I love it. It suggests future problems.
And have you started thinking about these future problems?
Derrick Jr.: My favorite thing is honestly to see online what people think and see how our characters go beyond the original media, and then the people who walk around in parks. They become young children who resume it. I love that it sends this message to everyone to be like Moana.
What are some questions that people come to you and ask “Moana 2?”
Hand: I think that because of our scene after credit is like, it’s like Well there will obviously be a “moana 3.” Are you already working on that part of it? We wanted to make sure we had the ability to tell more stories. I think it is the most common, that everyone has asked.
Derrick Jr.: One that is important to me that I have received several different times from people in society, want to know who these other new road flies we meet in the end are. And it’s something like Jason and I at first, much start, we wanted to show for, you have heard me say the word Ethnosphere And how excited I get how the people in the Pacific could connect to all different islands. And it was not because of any island. It was the collaboration between many different islands and cultures that could make the long journeys possible. To show, you know, people from Micronesia, from the Solomon Islands, from Proto-Tahitian (culture), I am so excited about it. These are questions I want to ask and answer in the future.
