The joy of PhishFandom is rarely in doubt, and it was proven yet again when the band came out in the final results of the fans’ voice for Rock and Roll Hall of FameClass 2025.
The band landed a first place with 330,000 votes registered by the fans. In second place was Company companieswith 281,000 votes, followed by Billy Idolin the third with 260,500.
Cyndi Lauper came in fourth place with 237,000, and Joe Cocker was fifth and landed 234,000 votes from the fans, before sixth place Soundgarden, which brought in 233,000.
Chubby Chucker was the only other nominees who received more than 200,000 fans votes, with 203,000. Black Crowes 165 200 votes were good enough for eighth place, followed by Mariah Carey in ninth with 138,000.
The registration of fan support was also Joy Division + New Order (120,500), the white stripes (110,500) and Outkast (108,000).
Among the 14 nominees, only two came in with fewer than 100,000 votes – Oasis, whose 99,500 votes may indicate that not all fans selling their reunification shows have a deeply sentimental connection to the band members’ unclear personalities; And the Latin rock band Mana, which has always been the dark horse in this race, which has taken up the rear with 34,500 votes.
Does this mean that Phish is an shoo-in to be named as an inductor when the class 2025 is officially announced on the coming Sunday evening? Not at all. The fan vote is really more a ceremonial opportunity for Hoi Polloi to feel that they participate than anything that has a lot of impact on the final results. As Rock Hall always explains in the fine print, the results of the fan vote are exactly equal to a vote, in total – that the number counts no more or less than the 1,200 votes emitted by industry -sides who participate in the election only through the invitation.
The story is on the side of the winner of the fan vote, which is also chosen by the industry voters. It was not until 2020 that the fans’ best choice has not come in, when the Dave Matthews band hand -like won among the fans with more than a million votes but still was not introduced. (DMB, however, came in four years later.)
But Phish has seen as a long shot that can be more popular with the masses than the industry types that vote for Rock Hall. The forecasting site Gold Derby has posted its predictions Name the seven most likely inductors, and Phish was not among the seven best choices. So if there will again be a DMB style sharing between fans and the hall’s invited voters, or a happy adjustment, remains to be seen.
Of course, the fan voting is hardly scientific vote and is strongly dependent on cultic devotions with social megaphones that whip up online turnout … so Mariah Carey can probably rest easy that she has not been darkened in overall popularity of bad company or chubby checker. But for some of the artists who can be regarded as sub -dogs, closing in the upper rankings may delay as sweet righteous if it turns out that the final result goes in a different way.
