When Alec Flynn Was in college, the comedian started using standup as a form of medicine to help with depression. “I needed a kind of creative outlet outside to turn black every weekend and spend time with the same five people I’ve known since I was little in Boston,” Flynn reveals, which will host this year’s kind The power of young Hollywood Event on August 7.
After fine-tuning their comic chops in front of the New Hampshire audience, Flynn continued to travel America and make a stand-up show and host “Big Al’s Grill Asmr”, where he interviews his closest friends and colleagues online. “Every time I was going to be on a podcast I just felt that I had felt pressed to be funny. I just liked it. I would go,” What do I like to do the most? I like to grill out with my friends and have beer. “Now comedians want to make the podcast because they want to sit outside and let me cook grill for them.”
Flynn says that the most rewarding thing about performing comedy live is the audience experience after the show and learning about the people who engage in his videos. “In San Diego there was a transman who came to me and said:” Yo, guy, you are a big bridge! “And I was like,” Yo, you’re a little bridge, exactly. “They meet people who are my age or younger, they come up and they say the movies make them feel they are not going crazy.”
As host of Power of Young Hollywood’s events, Flynn has high hopes for the next generation of storytellers over multiple media. “I hope we just start doing more things in LA, I hope we see more normality and see more people to get beer and things in bars. It’s about human connection and hope for authenticity.”
