Seven films will compete in the 2025 International Critics Week section at the Cannes Film Festival, the Critics Week organizers announced on Monday morning.
The films, all from the first and second time directors, include “Left Hand Girl” a family movie in Taipei, directed by shih-ching and produced and co-edited by reigning Palme d’Or and Oscar best image winner Sean Baker. Baker worked on the film during the award campaign for its movie “Anora.”
The competing features come from Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, USA and the United Kingdom.
Critics Week, or La Semaine de la Critique, also announced four special views, including “L’Otérêt d’Adam” (“Adam’s Sake”) from director Laura Wandel, which will serve as the sidebar’s opening evening.
The Critics Week, which celebrated 60th anniversary 2021, is an independent sidebar in Cannes. It was the section that led Cannes debuts from Guillermo del Toro, Julia Ducounau, Bernardo Bertolucci, Jacques Audiard, Ken Loach and Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
This year’s jury of the criticism week will consist of the Spanish author director Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Moroccan journalist Jihane Bougine, French-Canadian kinematographer Josee Deshales, Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara and British actor Daniel Kaluya.
