“John Williams Reimagined “and” Interstellar in Concert “are among the concerts and films that take place at the first Soundtrax movie music festival and conference from October 16-18.
Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester will honor the cinematic heritage from George Eastman, who founded the school as well as Eastman Kodak Company – and is the father of film film.
Festival Co-director Mark Watters said: “This is not just a festival or conference-it is a party for film lovers. It is a multisensor experience to inspire, connect and raise those who are passionate about the power of music and sound in visual media.”
Among the concert films that play during the three days are “John Williams Reimagined”: A live performance by John Williams iconic movie points classic “Reimagined” for Cello, Flute and Piano, with musicians who played on many of William’s original recordings: Sara Andon, Flute; Cecilia Tsan, Cello; Simone
Pedroni, piano.
“Interstellar in Concert” performance will contain the film’s original organist Roger Sayer, who will share his experience of working with director Christopher Nolan and composer Hans Zimmer. Sayer will also play its original interstellar arrangement at the historic sanctuary body in Rochester’s third Presbyterian church.
There will be a live-to-image performance of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2-in Concert” by Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
Spike Lee Go-to Composer Terence Blanchard will also make a look. He will perform highlights from his body of work, including “25th hours”, “Malcolm X” and “Blackkklansman.”
Eastman Professor Yoojin Jang will lead Eastman Philharmonia with a performance of music from “The Red Violin in Concert.”
Apart from the performances, conference sessions will cover AI in music production, submerged in sounds looking at Dolby Atmos, and there will be a conference on audio and music production.
The conference and festival were organized in collaboration by the Faculty of Eastman and the University of Rochester’s Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Mark Bocko, an excellent professor of electrical technology and computer technology and director. Said Bocko, “Rochester has the perfect combination of cultural importance and technical innovation to host a unique experience like Soundtrax.” He added, “This event presents a fun and fascinating way of exploring how artistry, science and technology for sound and music shapes visual media.”
