Zach Cregger’s Sprawling Horror Film ”Arms“Raises many questions. What did the 17 children get out of bed at 02:17 and run into the night? Where did they go? Who was in charge?
And why did the couple have seven sausages for a meal? It turns out that this question actually has an emotional answer.
This minor moment from “Weapons” went viral shortly after the film’s release, with the audience that noted the strange spread that adorns the tray to Benedict Wongs Marcus and his husband, Terry (Clayton Farris). While most viewers simply thought about the picture as another off-beat-throw in Cregger’s humorous horror movie, the bit actually has a possible origin that is much more emotionally.
If you haven’t seen ‘weapons’ yet there will be less spoilers In this article. If you want to go in completely blind for Cregger’s Gonzo Original Horror movie, come back to this later. If you are cool with the lightest spoilers, we talk mostly about sausages.
What is the “sausage moment” in “weapon?”
The movie “Weapons” centers on a small town in Pennsylvania that is infected with tragedy after 17 children (all from a single class in third grade) disappear at the same time. One night each of the children woke up, got out of bed at 2:17 in the morning and ran in at night.
“And they never came back,” says a little girl (expressed by Scarlett Sher) in an opening story.
“Weapons” focuses on the life of a handful of key people in Maybrook, PA, who is being drawn further into this tragedy. Such a section illustrates Benedict Wong’s Marcus Miller, principal of the elementary school the missing children participated.
Marcus’s episode in the film sees his life, like everyone else in the story, unchanging influenced by the sad horror that falls Maybrook. Just before the events come to a head for Marcus, the principal and his husband sit down for a meal, with a shot centered square on a barrel.
The audience quickly jumped in this picture and boiled fun on the strange meal prepared for this adult couple. The plate contains a small bowl with about a dozen baby carrots, a bowl twice as large as filled with ranch, a pair of handful of knocked potato chips, four chocolate chip cakes and a huge seven sausage (drizzled with mustard).
In a movie filled with excitement and sadness, Cutaway caught many viewers outside. While some have noted that seven sausages are not so unreasonable for two people, there is something with the framing and the time of the picture that the audience got stuck on.
But fans of Cregger’s early work know that the number of sausages present can have a deeper meaning than one would guess.
Why are there seven sausages?
Before becoming a horror director with his breakout hit “Barbarian”, Cregger belonged to a skis comedy squad on the TV series “The Whitest Kids U’Know” from 2007 to 2011. At the top of launching Cregger’s career in general gave “Wkuk” the future filmmaker, a co-author. Cregger directed a large majority of the episodes of the show’s five seasons together with series co-creators and colleague TROPUPE Trevor Moore.
About a year before “Barbarian” met theaters in 2022, Moore died tragically at the age of 41 After accidentally fallen by his balcony. Cregger has talked a lot about the effect that this has had on both him and his work, with the director who quoted this grief as one of the reasons he started working with “weapons.”
Fans of “Wkuk” may remember a sketch from the second episode of the show’s third season, entitled “Hot Dog Timmy.” In the scene, colleague “Wkuk” member Timmy Williams visits a doctor (played by Moore) who asks about his diet.
Especially when it comes to sausage.
“How many sausages do you eat a day?” Asks Trevor. Timmy then responds with its average: seven sausages. You can look at the sketch below.
As the sketch progresses, Trevor Timmy asks to run through his average day and stop when some sausages can come up. At the end of the sketch, Timmy has mentioned seven sausages on a normal day – and that is before lunch is over.
“Well, I hope there are no more sausages in the day, because we are up to seven now,” says Trevor.
“Yes, at the second tank that number may be a little low,” answers Timmy.
Although Cregger has not explicitly said that the moment in “weapons” was inspired by “Hot Dog Timmy”, it feels like a probable connection to his days working with Moore. Although it is unintentional, the image can be seen as a moving tribute to Moore, which produces a sketch showing the actor’s comic ability.
What does the internet say about “weapons” sausage?
X users quickly gleamed on the sausage shot from “weapons”, which made it an obvious prominent moment in many people’s views. Some laughed at the odd number of dogs on the tray and asked who gets four. Others advocated that a three to four sausage lunch is really not so much (after all, Timmy said he has four when he does not “blow through” lunch).
Many people called the moment a glimpse of beauty in an otherwise dark and impaired movie. Hot Dog Tray has been divided into X as a symbol of affection between the fictional couple – and between Cregger and Moore.
