“Captain America: Brave New World” Should be an exciting movie in MCU Canon for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that it acts as a spiritual sequel to one of the first films in the series.
The latest item ties many threads back to 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” – the second post in the entire MCU and one of its largest black sheep. The only standalone Canon Hulk movie has largely been malignant for several years with its main actor reworked from Edward Norton to Mark Ruffalo in later performances. “Captain America: Brave New World” looks to remedy it and bring a number of benched characters from the 2008 girl back into the limelight.
With such a disconnected feeling, it is likely that many fans skipped “The Incredible Hulk” on Rewatches so if so here is what you should remember before you agree with the latest Captain America movie.
Life Tyler’s Betty Ross
Bruce Banner may have received rework from Edward Norton to Mark Ruffalo, and for a while it seems that the rest of the role, apart from William Hurt’s General Ross, seemed to be mixed to non -existence. But this is no longer the case because Liv Tyler makes his MCU return like Betty Ross in “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Betty appeared in “The Incredible Hulk” as General Ross’s daughter and love interest for Bruce Banner. The two were college sweethearts and she was present the day Bruce was dosed with enough gamma rays to cut him out. The two obviously shared when Bruce went on the run but when he shows up during the movie Betty is quick to help him.
Betty opposes her father at the highlight of the film to help Bruce. The two manage to put a stop to abomination, but in the end Bruce goes back on the go and Betty was absent from MCU ever since. “Captain America: Brave New World” has been close to what her involvement in the film will be, but since her father is both president and the latest recipient of Hulk-like powers, it’s not difficult to guess.
Samuel Sterns got his forces in ‘The Incredible Hulk’
The second triumphant return, after over a decade of dormant, is Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns. Sterns appeared in “The Incredible Hulk” as a science friend to Bruce who wanted to help cure his condition. His desire to help is anchored more in serving himself notority rather than helping Bruce fixing himself, which causes Banner to regret to allow Sterns to have access to his Gamma-infused blood.
In the film’s climax, Stern’s Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) helps to become a naughtyness and in the process of the painful transformation, the researcher is thrown across the room. The last thing we see from Sterns is part of Bruce’s gamma -filled blood that drops into one of his open wounds and his head begins to grow.
This is the beginning of Stern’s transformation to the leader. Where Hulk is gamma -driven brawn, the leader is gamma -powered brains. He is one of the smartest individuals in the Marvel universe and he seems to have eyes on the Adamantium shell in the sky body in “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Thunderbolt Ross’s first look
General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross has been the most consistent aspect of “The Incredible Hulk” films in the larger MCU. In his first excursion, he was just a man who tried to stop his daughter’s ex-boyfriend from constantly turning into a green monster and to devastate to the city. His first commitment to Bruce pushed his research further in development in the hope that gamma-infused forces would be a response to the Super Soldier Serum that made Captain America back in World War II.
After letting Banner go after stopping mallence through Harlem at the end of “The Incredible Hulk”, he is contacted by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the scene after credit to join the Avengers initiative. He rejects the role and we do not see Ross again until “Captain America: Civil War” where he shows up to let Avengers know about the Sokovia agreements intended to keep heroes more responsible.
From there, Ross dives off and on until his big glowing in “Captain America: Brave New World” where his title changes from general to president of the US-socks, he was reworked to Harrison Ford for the film after injuring died in 2022.
Manipulation with Supersoldatserum
The pursuit of replicating Super Soldier Serum that transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America was all the way back in “The Incredible Hulk” – which was released three years before Cap’s original history introduced the serum in “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Thunderbolt Ross finances Bruce’s research on gamma radiation in the form of promoting radiation resistance, but in reality he hopes that it may be a compensation for the Super Soldier Serum lost during the Second World War. After Bruce Hulked for the first time, Ross spends a year tracking him with the hope of using the Hulk as a military asset. Eventually he hires Blonsky to track him and to help and with the soldier’s odds he gives him a dose of a weaker version of the Super Solider serum. Blonsky becomes dependent on the power and eventually forces sterns to turn him into abomination.
The hunt for Super Soldier Serum reappeared in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, when Sam learned about Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) who was injected with the serum during the Korea war but threw aside after his use faded. The Disney+ series also followed the reconstruction of another Supersold stakes that seemed to stay a little more. All that hunt can be traced back to General Ross and “The Incredible Hulk.”
