Sony Pictures has boarded “Barbaric” filmmaker Zach Cregger’s new adaptation of the video game franchise “Resident Evil” after a bid war for the director’s tag on the property. The studio will release the film, entitled “Resident Evil”, September 18, 2026.
Cregger wrote and will direct the new film, based on the video game franchise on a world exceeded by zombies due to a viral outbreak from an evil company. Shay hat writes together. Constantin Film produces and co -operates the film. Constantins Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon and Playstation Productions also produce.
After an acting career, Cregger burst on stage as a filmmaker with his horror movie 2022 “Barbarian”, which was released by the 1900s studios and received glowing reviews. His next script, “Weapons”, triggered a bid war and landed on Warner Bros. That movie, with Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, will be released in January 2026.
Paul WS Anderson led the first “Resident Evil” movie franchise and released the first film in 2002 with Milla Jovovich. That series would eventually extend over six movies, since 2021 a restart with “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” from Sony tried.
